Constantia is one of the poshest districts of Cape Town. The lovely landscape makes you forget that you are in the middle of a big city. The villas are surrounded by park-like gardens, and some have paddocks and vineyards.
The Constantia Valley and its immediate surroundings
On the Constantia Valley Wine Route, you can get to know the famous wineries in the green valley of Constantia. Groot Constantia was founded in 1685 and assigned to the first governor on the Cape, Simon van der Stel, as an experimental farm for agricultural products, which mainly developed viticulture here and made Constantia wine world-famous. In 1925 the Cape Dutch mansion burned down completely. After its reconstruction, it now houses a museum that gives an insight into the life of the first Cape settlers.
A stone's throw away is the Klein Constantia Winery, famous for its white wines, Buitenverwachting, home to one of the most exclusive restaurants in Cape Town, and Constantia Uitsig. The access via an avenue lined by mighty oaks is an experience. Constantia Uitsig also has a good restaurant called Blockhouse. A stroll through the extensive Groot Constantia winery is worthwhile just because of the great view of the Constantia Valley. On the way to Hout Bay, you pass the new, very exclusive wineries that have produced world-class wines in recent years: Constantia Glen, Eagles Nest and Beau Constantia. The renowned Steenberg Winery is located at the end of the valley. At the beginning of the 1990s, a world-class 18-hole golf course and a top restaurant were built here.

There are three first-class golf courses in the immediate vicinity ....
Steenberg Golf Club
18 holes (par 72) 6,424 meters - built by Peter Matkovich, it circles the club's own Steenberg Country House. The course is beautifully located on the back of Table Mountain on the gentle foothills of the Silverline Mountain and the 'Elephant's Eye'. It begins on the wooded, lower-lying part of the property on which the first 6 holes are located. The area changes dramatically on the following holes. Large grass bunkers, rocky mountain rivers and strategically placed water hazards are now the rules. In addition, slopes on many fairways make the game more challenging. Soft spikes required.
Westlake Golf Club
The beautiful Westlake golf course (par 72) is located near Lakeside, at the foot of the Silvermine Mountains, with a view of the Helderberg and Silvermine Mountains around False Bay. The origins of the square date back to 1932. Since then, it has been continuously expanded and improved. The rich vegetation offers good wind protection so that you can play all year round without great hindrance, which makes the parkland course extremely popular.
Atlantic Beach Golf Club, Cape Town
