The "Constantia Valley"
Constantia Cottages are situated on a park like property in a lovely alley in a villa area in the wine area Constantia, near to Cape Town city, in the green Constantia Valley behind Table Mountain. Constantia is considered to be one of the most noble of areas of Cape Town. The charming scenery of the Constantia Valley makes you forget that you are in the middle of a large city. The generous houses and villas are surrounded by park like gardens, some of them even have horse paddocks and vineyards around them.
You can discover the famous vineyards on the Constantia Valley Wine Route in the green valleys of Constantia. Groot Constantia was founded in 1685 and the first governor of Cape Town, Simon van der Stel, turned a farm for agricultural products into a vineyard and made Constantia wines world famous. In 1925 the Cape Dutch house completely burned down. After its reconstruction it is now a museum which gives you a glimpse into the life of the first Cape settlers.
Klein Constantia is a stone’s throw away from us, famous for its white wines, and Buitenverwachting which has one of the most exclusive restaurants in Cape Town. The drive though the powerful oak trees in the form of an alley is an experience. Also Constantia Uitsig has two top restaurants. It is worth taking a stroll on the property just to see the view over the Constantia Valley. At the end of the valley you will find Steenberg vineyard. At the beginning of the 90’s an 18 hole golf course was constructed as well as a hotel and a restaurant. Nowadays Steenberg Golf Club counts as one of the most important travel destinations in the whole of South Africa for experienced golfers.
